President Extends Congo National Emergency for One Year
The continuation applies to all U.S. authorities under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, effective beyond Oct. 27 2026.

On October 15, 2026, the President issued a notice continuing the national emergency concerning the Democratic Republic of the Congo for an additional year. The continuation, made under section 202(d) of the National Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C. 1622(d)), extends the emergency beyond October 27 2026.
The original emergency was declared by Executive Order 13413 on October 27 2006, invoking the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (50 U.S.C. 1701 et seq.) to address the threat posed by widespread violence and atrocities in the Congo. Executive Order 13671, dated July 8 2014, amended the original order.
By extending the emergency, the President maintains the authority granted under IEEPA to respond to the unusual and extraordinary threat to U.S. foreign policy. All agencies exercising IEEPA powers remain bound by the continuation.
The notice, identified as FR Doc 2026-21432, was filed on October 16 2026 at 11:15 a.m., published in the Federal Register (Vol. 91, No. 200, page 66281), and transmitted to Congress as required.
