IRS Extends Information Collection for Advanced Energy Project Credit
The extension applies to for-profit businesses filing project data for the Sec. 48C(e) credit, with comments due Dec 14 2026.

The Internal Revenue Service has issued a notice extending the information-collection requirement for the Sec. 48C(e) Qualifying Advanced Energy Project Credit, a program that obligates business or other for-profit entities to submit project information to the Department of Energy and the IRS for technical review, credit allocation, and certification.
The credit allocation program authorizes $10 billion in tax credits for qualified investments in eligible advanced-energy projects, including at least $4 billion reserved for projects located in designated energy communities. Eligible projects include investments to establish, expand, or re-equip industrial or manufacturing facilities that produce or recycle clean-energy technologies, achieve a greenhouse-gas emissions reduction of at least 20 percent, or process, refine, or recycle critical materials.
The IRS is requesting written comments on the collection by December 14 2026. Comments should be addressed to Andres Garcia, IRS, Room 6526, 1111 Constitution Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20224, or emailed with "OMB Control No. 1545-2151" in the subject line. For additional information, contacts include Marcus W. McCrary, phone 470-769-2001.
The notice estimates 5,000 responses, each requiring 6 hours, 21 minutes, for a total annual burden of 31,750 hours. The OMB control number for the collection is 1545-2151, and the regulation project numbers are Notice 2023-18 and Notice 2024-36.
The agency notes that there is no change in the paperwork burden previously approved by OMB.
