NYSE American approves extended trading hours for eligible equity options
The rule change, filed as Amendment No. 2 to SR-NYSEAMER-2026-34, takes effect after accelerated SEC approval on Aug. 28, 2026 and applies to eligible equity options on NYSE American.

NYSE American LLC has amended its rules to add two supplemental trading sessions for certain eligible equity options. The amendment, filed as Amendment No. 2 and superseding the original proposal and Amendment No. 1, creates an early trading session from 7:30 a.m. to 9:25 a.m. Eastern Time and a corresponding late-day session, thereby extending trading beyond the Core Trading Session of 9:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. ET.
The Commission's docket lists the filing as File No. SR-NYSEAMER-2026-34, Release No. 34-106218. NYSE American initially submitted the rule change on June 5, 2026; the notice was published for comment on June 22, 2026. After a designation extending the review period on July 30, 2026, the Exchange filed Amendment No. 1 on July 31, 2026 and Amendment No. 2 on August 17, 2026. The SEC issued an order granting accelerated approval of the amendment on August 28, 2026.
Amendment No. 2 introduces Rule 901.1NY to define the new sessions and Rule 901.2NY to govern trading during those periods. It also revises Rule 952NYP to address the auction process in extended hours. Eligibility criteria are broadened to include options on exchange-traded products (ETPs), market-maker quoting obligations are detailed for the new sessions, accelerated eligibility for recently IPO-listed securities is removed, auction-imbalance calculations for the Core Session are updated, and order-type availability is expanded to the extended sessions.
The Exchange states that the change responds to investor demand for option trading outside regular hours, particularly from non-U.S. participants and U.S. investors who trade equities after the Core Session. Aligning option trading with the already-extended hours of underlying securities is intended to improve market access and keep pace with practices at other U.S. options venues.
The order is effective upon issuance, and the Commission is soliciting comments on Amendment No. 2. The full text of the amendment and related materials are available on the SEC website and at NYSE American's principal office.
