President Extends Terrorism Sanctions Emergency for One Year
The extension applies to all persons who commit, threaten, or support terrorism, effective after September 23, 2026.
On September 11, 2026, the President issued a notice continuing the national emergency declared under Executive Order 13224 of September 23, 2001, as amended. The continuation extends the emergency for one year beyond September 23, 2026, pursuant to section 202(d) of the National Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C. 1622(d)).
The emergency addresses the unusual and extraordinary threat posed by persons who commit, threaten to commit, or support terrorism to U.S. national security, foreign policy, and the economy. It incorporates the sanctions framework established by Executive Order 13886, signed on September 9, 2019, which strengthened and consolidated measures against international terrorism.
The notice, filed as FR Doc 2026-19053 on September 15, 2026, at 11:15 a.m., will be published in the Federal Register and transmitted to Congress. All individuals and entities subject to the sanctions regime under EO 13224 remain bound by the emergency provisions for the additional year.
