GSA's $13 billion fraud claim relies on cases predating task force

GSA Leadership FedRAMP Treasury FedRAMP Director Pete Waterman will return to work on Thursday after being placed on administrative leave in late July for a social media post on his personal LinkedIn account stating preferences for veterans in federal hiring hampers tech-focused recruiting, according to two sources familiar with the matter.The General Services Administration did not comment on Waterman’s reinstatement.Waterman became the first director of FedRAMP — the federal government’s cloud security authorization program — in over three years when he was named to the position in August 2024. Waterman has overseen the Trump administration’s new FedRAMP 20x overhaul during his tenure. GSA, Treasury kick off post-quantum initiatives to protect against cyber threats
The Trump administration still has four months to update the National Quantum Strategy, but that doesn’t mean agencies are waiting for that document, expected by late December, to get started. The General Services Administration and the Treasury Department today both announced initiatives and changes to processes to prepare for the future of quantum cryptography to protect data and systems. GSA says it’s updating the Federal Identity, Credential and Access Management (FICAM) architecture and developing a new testing process for the technology that helps secure federal buildings. “[I]f current encryption is a complex lock that would take thousands of years to pick, quantum computers could potentially pick that same lock in hours or days. This creates an urgent need to develop new types of quantum-resistant encryption ‘locks’ before quantum computers become widely available,” wrote Dan Pomeroy, the deputy associate administrator for the Office of Technology Policy with the Office of Governmentwide Policy at GSA, in a blog post. “Transitioning to quantum-resistant security is a complex, multiyear process that requires careful coordination across government and a steady investment/funding strategy. GSA’s early action helps mitigate risks and supports a secure, orderly migration that protects both digital systems and physical facilities. GSA looks to ‘meaningfully increase’ hiring to replenish its workforce

GSA’s Public Buildings Service told staff in an internal notice last week that a total of 142 new vacancies have been posted to USAJobs, “reflecting our continued growth and need for talented individuals.” According to the notice obtained by Government Executive, PBS is hiring a mix of construction managers, lease contracting officers and building managers. GSA Administrator Ed Forst told office heads in a separate email that “we need to meaningfully increase our hiring in certain disciplines and decisively attract the best talent that will support GSA as we continue to grow as an agency.” “Recruiting the right people is one of the most important things we will do to strengthen our agency. The people we bring in will shape our capacity, our performance, and our ability to power the federal government for today and our future,” Forst wrote. OneGov savings balloon to over $1.6B as agencies weigh future of AI in contracting

GSA Artificial Intelligence NASA The OneGov program has saved the federal government about $1.62 billion — including about $1.4 billion through limited-time discounts on artificial intelligence — since its inception, a General Services Administration official said Thursday.“That number may not capture the full impact because some agencies might have used the OneGov pricing to negotiate pricing on their own contracts outside of GSA’s [involvement],” Birgit Smeltzer, director of the agency’s Office of IT Products, said at the GovCIO Federal AI Forum. Indeed, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services is one example of an agency that has negotiated technology discounts beyond OneGov. But federal agencies only have limited time access to discounted software through the OneGov program.Smeltzer said some of the original equipment manufacturers have already agreed to extend the duration of their OneGov discounts or are working on forging new offers.
