SEC Extends OMB Review for UIT Form N-8B-2 Information Collection
Unit investment trusts must continue filing Form N-8B-2; comments on the extension are due by Nov. 16, 2026.

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced an extension of the proposed collection of information for Form N-8B-2, filing under OMB Control No. 3235-0186. The notice, published in the Federal Register on October 13, 2026 (FR Doc No. 2026-21082), seeks public comment on the extension.
Unit investment trusts (UITs) that are required to register under the Investment Company Act of 1940 must file Form N-8B-2 to satisfy section 8(b) filing and disclosure requirements. The form, which must be filed only once and is not subject to post-effective amendments, discloses organization, securities, personnel, distribution, trustee or custodian information, and financial statements. Responses are not confidential.
The SEC estimates the annual burden at 40 hours per response, representing approximately one UIT filing each year. The total annual external cost burden is estimated at $11,610, based on 15 hours of outside legal services at a wage rate of $774 per hour for an attorney in the securities industry.
