Securities Industry Declares Y2K Compliance and Releases Investor Kit

The President's Council on Year 2000 Conversion, the Securities and Exchange Commission, the National Association of Securities Dealers, the New York Stock Exchange, the Investment Company Institute and the Securities Industry Association issued a joint statement on Sept. 7, 2026 confirming that their mission-critical and non-mission-critical computer systems have been remediated, tested and are Year 2000 compliant. SEC Chairman Arthur Levitt said the agency's systems are ready for the new millennium, and NYSE Chairman and CEO Richard A. Grasso added that every link from order entry to settlement is Y2K-compatible for the estimated 70 million American investors.

The announcement highlights extensive industry coordination. NASD Chairman Frank G. Zarb noted that the association has educated its 5,000-plus member firms about Y2K readiness and monitored compliance, while ICI President Matthew P. Fink emphasized that mutual-fund investors will continue to be protected under the Investment Company Act of 1940 after Jan. 1, 2000. SIA President Marc E. Lackritz said thousands of volunteers have developed contingency plans, including a coordination and communications center to address any unforeseen issues.
