SEC seeks OMB extension for Rule 15c1-5 information collection
Broker-dealers must continue providing written control-relationship notifications to customers; comments due by Nov. 2, 2026.

The Securities and Exchange Commission has submitted to the Office of Management and Budget a request to extend the proposed collection of information for Rule 15c1-5, 17 CFR 240.15c1-5, under the Securities Exchange Act of 1934. The submission cites OMB Control No. 3235-0471 and appears in Federal Register Volume 91, No. 189, dated October 1, 2026 (FR Doc No. 2026-20145).
Rule 15c1-5 requires any broker-dealer that is controlled by, controlling, or under common control with the issuer of a security being bought or sold for a customer to give the customer written notification disclosing that control relationship at or before the transaction is completed.
The Commission estimates that 162 respondents will provide the required notifications annually, each spending approximately 10 hours per year, for a total burden of about 1,620 hours per year. The rule does not impose a retention-period requirement and does not involve the collection of confidential information.
The public may view and comment on the information-collection request at https://www.reginfo.gov/public/do/PRAViewICR?ref_nbr=202607-3235-017 or by email to the protected address provided. Comments must be submitted within 30 days of the day after publication, with a deadline of November 2, 2026.
The notice reiterates that an agency may not conduct or sponsor a collection of information, and a person is not required to respond, unless a currently valid OMB control number is displayed.
