The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation published a notice in the Federal Register (Vol. 91, No. 184, Sep. 24, 2026) requesting public comment on the renewal of its Summary of Deposits information collection (OMB Control No. 3064-0061). Comments are to be submitted on or before October 26, 2026, via the agency's website, email, mail to Robert Meiers, or hand delivery.

The proposed collection, titled "Summary of Deposits," applies to FDIC-insured depository institutions, including insured U.S. branches of foreign banks. The burden estimate lists 3,651 respondents, each providing one response of three hours, for a total annual burden of 10,953 hours. The agency notes a decrease of 657 respondents from the previously approved figure of 11,610, resulting in the revised estimate.

The Summary of Deposits (SOD) is an annual survey of branch office deposits as of June 30. All FDIC-insured institutions operating a main office and one or more branch locations, as well as insured foreign bank branches, are required to file. The FDIC states there is no change in the substance or methodology of the collection; the only adjustment is the reduced respondent estimate.

Commenters are asked to address whether the collection is necessary for the FDIC's functions, the accuracy of the burden estimates, potential improvements to data quality and clarity, and ways to lessen respondent burden through automation or other technology. All comments will become part of the public record.
