The Securities and Exchange Commission announced on August 20, 2026 that it will submit the existing information collection for Rule 17f-1 (17 CFR 270.17f-1) to the Office of Management and Budget for extension and approval. The collection is identified by OMB Control No. 3235-0222 and appears in Federal Register Volume 91, No. 162, FR Doc No. 2026-17225.

Rule 17f-1 governs registered management investment companies that place their assets in the custody of a national securities exchange member. Such funds must execute a written custodial contract ratified by a majority of the board of directors each year and obtain three independent public accountant examinations of the custodial assets per fiscal year. The contract and each examination certificate must be transmitted to the Commission.

Commission staff estimate that four funds file one response each year, totaling four responses and an internal burden of approximately 14 hours (0.5 hours for board review and 3 hours for controller assistance per fund). External costs are estimated at $1,548 for outside counsel and $11,550 for the independent accountant, yielding a per-fund cost of $13,098 and a collective annual cost of $52,392.

The notice invites written comments on the necessity, accuracy, utility, and burden of the collection. Comments must be submitted to Austin Gerig, Director/Chief Data Officer, SEC, via email to the address provided, no later than October 23, 2026.
