Treasury submits three BFS information collection extensions for OMB review

Individuals and households must comply with extended Treasury forms after the notice's publication on Oct. 2, 2026.

The Department of the Treasury's Departmental Offices will submit three Bureau of the Fiscal Service information collection requests to the Office of Management and Budget for review and clearance in accordance with the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995, on or after the date of publication of this notice on Oct. 2, 2026. The public may submit comments on these requests until Nov. 2, 2026.

The first request, titled "Certificate of Identity" (OMB Control Number 1530-0026), extends a currently approved collection using FS Form 0385. It is directed at individuals or households, estimates 330 respondents, a 10-minute response time, and a total annual burden of 55 hours.

The second request, "Special Form of Request for Payment of US Savings and Retirement Securities Where Use of a Detached Request Is Authorized" (OMB Control Number 1530-0028), also extends an existing collection and uses FS Form 1522. It targets individuals or households, estimates 14,000 respondents, a 15-minute response time, and 3,500 annual burden hours.

The third request, "Treasury Direct System" (OMB Control Number 1530-0071), extends a currently approved collection and employs FS Forms 5444, 5446, 5511, and 5512. It affects individuals or households, estimates 3,875,552 respondents, a 30-minute response time, and 193,230 annual burden hours, authorized under 44 U.S.C. 3501 et seq.
