SEC Extends Information Collection for NRSRO Registration
The extension applies to all 11 registered NRSROs and is open for comment through Sept. 18, 2026.

The Securities and Exchange Commission has submitted to the Office of Management and Budget a request to extend the Paperwork Reduction Act collection of information for Rule 17g-1 and Form NRSRO. The request is identified by OMB Control No. 3235-0625 and appears in Federal Register Volume 91, No. 158, page 53436.
Rule 17g-1 establishes the process by which a credit rating agency registers as a nationally recognized statistical rating organization (NRSRO) and files ongoing disclosures. Registration and any addition of a new class of credit ratings require the filing of an application on Form NRSRO, which enumerates the data the agency must provide.
The Commission estimates that the annual burden on respondents to comply with the rule and form will be 2,322 hours. It also estimates an industry-wide external cost of $4,840 for postage and handling, noting that this figure reflects a 10 percent increase since the last renewal to account for inflation. Currently, 11 credit rating agencies are registered as NRSROs with the Commission.
The public may review the collection request at https://www.reginfo.gov/public/do/PRAViewICR?ref_nbr=202604-3235-017 or submit comments by email to the address provided in the notice. Comments must be received within 30 days of the day after publication, no later than September 18, 2026.
The notice is dated August 14, 2026, and was signed by Vanessa A. Countryman, Assistant Secretary of the SEC.
