SEC Seeks OMB Extension for Form 6-K Information Collection
Foreign private issuers filing Form 6-K must comment by Sep 18 2026 on the SEC's extension request.

The Securities and Exchange Commission has submitted to the Office of Management and Budget a request to extend the previously approved collection of information for Form 6-K, the disclosure document required of foreign private issuers under Exchange Act rules 13a-16 and 15d-16. The request is identified by OMB Control No. 3235-0116 and appears in Federal Register volume 91, number 158 (FR Doc 2026-16818).
Form 6-K filings are estimated to require 8.7 total hours per response and occur about 21.29 times per year per issuer. Approximately 1,261 respondents generate an estimated 26,848 responses annually. The SEC calculates that 75 % of the 8.7 hours is performed internally, producing an annual reporting burden of 175,183 hours, while the remaining 25 % is performed by outside professionals at $600 per hour, creating an annual cost burden of $35,036,640.
The public may review the collection request at https://www.reginfo.gov/public/do/PRAViewICR?ref_nbr=202605-3235-006 and submit comments by email to the address provided in the notice. Comments must be received within 30 days of publication, no later than September 18 2026.
The notice reiterates that a collection may not be conducted or sponsored without a currently valid OMB control number.
